As a San Francisco Bay Area–based nonprofit theatre company, we reimagine classic and contemporary works through actor-centered performance rooted in rigorous artistic inquiry. By revisiting canonical texts through contemporary and culturally responsive lenses, we invite diverse audiences into dialogue about the human condition and the social forces shaping our time.
We believe theatre is a civic act — not spectacle, but encounter — a shared space where empathy deepens, difficult questions are explored with care, and collective imagination is awakened. Through community engagement and artistic rigor, Theatre In Search strives to contribute to a more reflective, connected, and culturally vibrant Bay Area.
Theatre In Search grew from the spark of a 1985 production of Waiting for Godot, when founders Hayedeh Doroudy-Ahi and George Charbak committed to continuing a shared journey with creative artists. What began as collaboration became a calling: to create theatre that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, intimate yet expansive in its reach.
